Saving PDF for print from Photoshop

I thought I’d share this little tip for when saving out a print ready PDF from Photoshop using the “Save as” option.

The problem I found was that the PDF was huge after saving, for example, the Photoshop file I have is about 100MB however when I saved it out as the print ready PDF, the PDF would be close to 350MB! Massive!!

So.. as a fix I flatterned the files first then saved out as a PDF… the quality is perfect and the printer had no complaints… and the PDF was down to 25MB! Much easier to handle!

Would be interested to know if other have had this problem and what they’ve done to solve it.. apart from starting in Illustrator! ;-)

Not a trip for the faint of heart, as he flies with one door open.

Apple’s new iPad will transform web design

Retina display will add complexity but also push vector graphics

R/GA web strategist Brad Frost last week suggested the new iPad’s Retina display would wreak havoc on the web. In an article on his blog, Frost stated that despite the web already struggling with bloated downloads, designers would feel compelled to boost image resolutions, in order to combat a likely slew of crisp, Retina display-optimised apps. “The user on the bus can be on slow Wi-Fi or 3G and might just need to get the damn assets downloaded. They shouldn’t be punished with downloading a massive Retina-ready image,” said Frost. “We need a way to properly address this.”
